Five players from Brunel University have made it into the South East Regional Student Rugby League team for 2015.
Malikhi Lloyd-Jones, Ibrahim Kabia, Casey Swain, Howard Smith and George Geddes are all in the 25 man provisional squad after trials at the White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre.
After another training session, this squad will then be reduced down to 20 players, and that final squad will go to the Student Rugby League Regional Championships at the end of February.
Jake Yellop, Chairman of Brunel Rugby League, said: “Having five boys get into the squad is a reflection on the successful work of the club this past season.
“We've had a tough run lately with a lot of injuries, so to still get a strong showing in the South East team is a great bonus, and I know the boys are proud.
“It's a great achievement for them and I wish them the best for the tournament.”
All five Brunel University players play for Brunel's Rugby League team, who are enjoying a fine season. The team, affectionately known as the 'Brunel Big Dogs', have just wrapped up their league title with 6 wins in 7 games - including a dramatic home victory against Cambridge University.
Swain, Smith and Geddes are all first timers in the South East Regional team, with Lloyd-Jones and Kabia acting as returning veterans to the regional game. The players will be joining head coaches Mike Stewart and Matt Cuss, and team manager Jenny Morris, to compete against 5 other regional teams. South East will be looking to improve on last year where they had mixed results, winning one game, drawing one and losing one more. This years matches will begin in Nottingham on the 28th of February.
