“The tragic scene of the death of Hussain will awaken the sympathy of the coldest reader.” – Edward Gibbson
Who inspires you? Malcolm X? Gandhi? Russell Brand?
Imam Hussain inspires me.
Hussain stood for Love, Honour and Sacrifice, and 1400 years ago, Hussain stood against the oppressive and corrupt rule of Yazid. Hussain stood for helping others before himself, practising equality and eradicating tyrannical leadership.
The 20 million men, women and children who walk to the shrine of Imam Hussain every year have learnt that, through bravery and selflessness, we can unite and take a stand against widespread inequalities and barbaric prejudice. This message is universal and timeless, applying to the present day, whereby the sheer rise of despotic leaders around the globe leads to the infringement of human rights.
The Brunel Ahlulbayt Society launched its Ashura Awareness Week on 20th and 21st of November, where members gathered in the Atrium to propagate the distinct and special message of Hussain. Members stood at the stall in the Atrium and on the main concourse to enlighten fellow Brunelians about the humanitarian and noble cause. To spread this special message of sacrifice and love, members handed out leaflets on Blood Donations as part of giving something back to society and helping those who are less fortunate. Team members also gave out leaflets about who Hussain was and the stand that he made. Additionally, the campaign entailed giving out free hot chocolate to students, bringing some warmth to their cold, wintry morning.
Although a few shied away, many students asked to be enlightened more about Hussain and his stand, so I’d like to thank all the members of the Ahlulbayt society for their exceptional efforts in making this campaign a very huge success!
1.5 Billion People around the world know about Hussain and the stand that he made. Do you? Ensure that you don’t miss out by visiting: www.whoishussain.org
